5 Delicious Places to Eat Lunch Within 100m of Roamwork

We feel so lucky to call the East City of Cape Town our home. Over the last decade, the area has undergone a remarkable transformation, spurred on by the city’s thriving creative scene. Alongside this revival we’ve witnessed an EXPLOSION of new eateries, and there are a bounty of delicious diners to choose from within less than 100m of our front door! We recently made a short video highlighting some of these restaurants (watch it HERE) and the response was phenomenal – roamers are clearly hungry creatures. So, we thought we’d write a little blog giving you a few more details and our personal recommendations from each place.

#1 – Wild Eatery

  • Great plant-based options.
  • Healthy.
  • Meals between R85 and R100.

This cute food truck is in the courtyard behind zero-waste store NUDE FOODS and follows similar ecological/plant-based principles. Everything on the menu is 100% vegan (but you would never know) and the dishes tend to take inspiration from Mexican or Japanese cuisine. Our favourite is the Inari Bowl – a Japanese-inspired poké bowl with a bed of bouncy black rice covered in all manner of delicious goodies.

#2 – New York Bagel

  • Best bagels in Cape Town.
  • Super-fast service.
  • Bagels for between R30 and R70.

UNDOUBTEDLY the best bagels in Cape Town, and we can’t believe how lucky we are to have New York Bagel directly below us. Famous for authentic boiled bagels (made on site) and fresh ingredients, it’s no wonder this hole-in-the-wall has 4.7 stars on Google from almost 1,500 people! While anything is guaranteed to be delicious we recommend the bacon and egg bagel with extra roasted tomatoes, caramelised onion and mayo. The New York-style cheesecake is also a GAME CHANGER.

#3 – La Menara

  • Authentic Moroccan cuisine and decor.
  • Some of the best tagines in the city.
  • Meals for between R45 and R200.

It’s one of the less well-known spots along the street, but don’t let this hidden gem fool you. This family-run Moroccan restaurant serves some of the most flavourful tagines in the city. And if you don’t want to indulge in a massive meal for lunch (it’s worth coming back for dinner), the subtly-spiced toasted sandwiches and wraps are also a winner.

#4 – The Electric

  • Large, open and inspiring interiors.
  • Delicious fresh juices.
  • Meals for between R45 and R75.

Sometimes we wonder whether The Electric (just around the corner from Roamwork) should have been called The Eclectic. This juice and health bar spends the day serving all manner of freshly pressed nutrition – designed to leave you feeling electrified – then transforms into a bar and event venue as the sun sets. We haven’t tried many of the food options but the juices are delish and it’s a lovely spacious spot to sit between meetings.

#5 – Downtown Ramen

  • Trendy ‘inner city’ atmosphere.
  • Some of the best ramen in the city.
  • Meals around R120.

A long-time staple of the Cape Town food scene, Downtown Ramen continues to serve up some of the best noodles in the city. Perfect for a cosy winter’s lunch, any of the noodles are guaranteed to be delicious.
